Understanding Rates, Availability, and Other Restrictions

In addition to rates and availability, various other restrictions can be implemented for your property in the Hotel Link Booking Engine.

Availability: Quantity of rooms/beds available to be booked

"Availability" refers to the number of rooms or beds that are currently unoccupied and available for reservation at a given time.

Rates: Booking rate per room/bed

"Rates" refer to the price charged for a room or bed per night. This rate is the basic cost associated with booking accommodation in the hotel.

Extra Adult Rates: Booking rate per extra adult

"Extra Adult Rates" refer to additional charges applied for each adult staying in a room beyond the number included in the standard room rate. Typically, a hotel room rate covers occupancy for a set number of adults (often one or two). When more adults wish to stay in the same room, hotels may allow this under certain conditions and apply an extra charge for each additional adult.

Extra Child Rates: Booking rate per extra child

"Extra Child Rates" refer to the additional charges applied when a child (or children) beyond the standard occupancy included in the room rate is staying in the room. Hotels often have a base rate for rooms that accommodates a certain number of adults, and children up to a certain age might stay for free or at a reduced rate. However, if the number of children exceeds this allowance, or if the children are above the age for free accommodation, an extra child rate is applied.

Min Nights: Minimum number of nights allowed

The term "Min Nights" in hotel bookings refers to the "Minimum Nights Stay" requirement set by a hotel for accepting reservations. This policy mandates that guests book their stay for a certain minimum number of consecutive nights to qualify for a reservation. It's a common restriction used by hotels to manage their inventory, particularly during peak seasons, special events, or weekends, ensuring optimal occupancy and revenue.

For example, if a hotel sets a Min Nights requirement of 3 nights during a holiday period, guests must book their stay for at least three consecutive nights to secure a reservation for those dates. Bookings for shorter durations will not be accepted during this period.

Max Nights: Maximum number of nights allowed

The term "Max Nights" in the context of hotel bookings refers to the maximum number of consecutive nights a guest can book in a single reservation through the hotel's instant booking system. This restriction is set by the hotel to control the length of stays and manage their inventory more effectively.

For instance, a hotel might set a "Max Nights" limit of 7 nights. This means that guests can book stays for up to 7 consecutive nights through the hotel's online booking engine or other instant booking channels.

Close to Arrival (CTA): Restricts arrivals on selected dates.

Close to Arrival" (CTA) in hotel booking is a restriction applied by hotels on reservations. It means that the hotel does not allow guests to book a room for arrival on certain dates unless it is very close to the date of arrival. For example, if a hotel has a CTA restriction for a particular Saturday, this could mean that guests cannot book a room to arrive on that Saturday unless they are making the booking very close to that date, such as a day or two before.

Close to Departure (CTD): Restricts departures on selected dates

Close to Departure" (CTD) is a restriction similar to "Close to Arrival" (CTA) but focused on the departure date rather than the arrival date. A CTD restriction means that the hotel limits bookings that would result in a departure on specific, usually high-demand, dates unless the reservation is made very close to the departure date itself. For example, if a hotel applies a CTD restriction for a particular Sunday, it means that guests cannot book a stay that ends on that Sunday.

Stop Sell: Block availability of rate plans for selected dates

"Stop Sell" is a term used in hotel management and booking systems, referring to an action taken to block the availability of certain rate plans for selected dates. When a hotel implements a "Stop Sell" on specific rate plans for certain dates, it means that those particular rates cannot be booked by guests for those specified dates.

Release Period: Number of days before check-in to allow bookings

When a hotel applies a "Release Period" in their booking engine, it refers to a specific time frame before the arrival date by which a room must be booked, after which the room becomes unavailable for reservation for that particular date. This period is also known as a "release clause" or "cut-off period."

For example, a hotel might set a release period of 2 days for certain dates. This means that guests must book their stay at least 2 days before the intended arrival date. Any reservations attempted less than 48 hours before the arrival date would be restricted, and the rooms would not be bookable for those dates through the hotel's booking engine.
